Fairy Tale
For Fairy Tale I brought in one of our own, Ashley (Brakebill) Lollis, to the other side of the camera to play the role of “The Fairy.”
In writing this screenplay, I wanted to make a costume party that goes wrong for one girl. She arrives at the party she said she wasn’t coming to. The other party goers convey a feeling of knowing something she doesn’t.
We used a lot of little lights to give a warm festive feeling and because it was such a key player, I requested a yellow Volkswagen Beetle. I thought that this kind of car is what Fairy Girl would be driving. We used the rays of light from the headlights and street lights to give off little flickers of glare like little fairy’s floating around her. You’ll also notice a cameo by Garden Parks Series Regular, Ashley Safer as “the other woman”
There are a few little touches in this (I always liked the guy tossing the Toilet Paper up in the tree as she enters) but in my own opinion, one of the best moments was Fairy Girl tossing the picture out of the car, yet still so attached she has to go back for it. I think this comes from high school and me knowing the pretty girl who couldn’t stop wanting to date the meat head who treated her like junk.
I was impressed with Ashley’s performance. She cried for about 2-3 hours while we shot her driving sequence and did her own make up to boot!
